Your Personal Genetic Code Handed to You!

Suppose you go to your family doctor, have them run genetic test on you and then they hand you a small digital storage device that contains your complete, personal genetic code!

Sounds like a good plot for a science fiction movie, doesn't it? Well, it's already here! But it will still probably end up the plot of a movie because it spawns tons of questions about what could happen.

Your Computer Making Jokes! Coming Soon!

I was very fortunate to get to see the computer revolution from the inside out. As a former computer guru I built hundreds of systems from scratch and went to people's homes and offices to teach them how to use these new wonder machines they had heard so much about, but didn't have the foggiest idea how to use.

I have seen a lot of progress over the years that left me amazed, and still does on a regular basis! And the fact that they are predicting computing speed doubling every couple of years has me reserving spots in my brain to try to contain all of the amazement that's ahead!

The Future is Now: Part 1

I have titled this, the future is now: part 1, because this is the kind of topic that easily lends itself to further posts as time goes by.

I am 57 years old and there are many things I see and study about that I was never sure would happen in my whole life time!

Renewable Energy: Do or Die?

Global warming has become a hot topic. Is mankind responsible or not? In some ways that question doesn't matter.

Mankind's history on planet earth is very short in geological terms. The earth is considered to be about 4 billion years old. That is including all the way from a hot boiling cauldron of lava to the present day.

Our Universe is Amazing!

Our universe is amazing! Just thinking about it can expand your mind and give you a perspective you never had before!

Our sun is 93 million miles from earth. It is a million miles across and a million earths could fit within it's perimeter. There are over 100 billion stars, ( suns) in our Milky Way galaxy and there are over 100 billion galaxies in the known universe! Start multiplying that out and your calculator will soon run out of 0s! :~) As a matter of fact, there are more stars in the universe than there are grains of sand on all the beaches of earth put together! That makes out the universe to be a pretty darn big place!

Longevity: Live Long and Prosper!

As I write this blog post I am sure that your reading it won't be a guarantee that you will either live longer or prosper more. ( sorry about that! LOL!)

But I have found in life, especially modern day life which can get kind of full and hectic sometimes, that even taking the time to think about something can be the first step in bringing it about.

Liquid Gases

A liquid gas. Sounds like an oxymoron doesn't it! :~) There are 4 states of matter that we know about. Solid, liquid, gas and plasma ,(which is pretty much, for everyday discussion and to avoid getting into a long, fascinating talk here right now), plasma is a state where the atoms are more spread apart than a gas.

Hydrogen: New Way Found to Produce it!

You may have heard people use the term, hydrogen economy. What does that mean? How could a whole economy be based on hydrogen? Quite a big responsibility for the simplest element in the world and universe!

GPS: Global Positioning System

It is my pleasure to be able to write a lot about science fiction and science fact. This topic happens to be one where the first time I was talking about it, it was science fiction, and now it has become science fact! May many other of my SCI Fi topics do the same! LOL! It's going to be great to report about the latest flying cars and manned missions to Mars! :~)

Genetically Modified Food and Ethics.

To my mind there are lots of situations where ethics comes up in science. I was brought up to believe that you had to have a strong opinion on one side or the other of things, but as I have gotten older I have found that the most comfortable place for me is increasingly, right in the middle.

Cheaper Solar Power is on the Way!

Dr Wayne Campbell and researchers in Massey University’s Nanomaterials Research Centre in New Zealand have developed a range of coloured dyes for use in dye-sensitised solar cells that they claim will generate electricity from sunlight at a 10th of the cost of current silicon-based photo-electric solar cells.

Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein said that when a mind expands to receive and think about a big, new idea it never goes back to the size it was before!
